The Secretary of the Economy of Science and Technology at the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology announced during a visit to INOTEX 2024 that over a thousand companies are active across the country, with the majority based in Tehran.

Seyed Mohammad Karbasi, Secretary of the Economy of Science and Technology, emphasized the need for optimal use of technology development infrastructure, adding that one of the functions of technology development headquarters is to identify ecosystems.

He mentioned that the development of employment and a knowledge-based economy could prevent the brain drain of elites, leading to competitiveness and reduced prices of products, including imports. He noted that more than 10,000 knowledge-based companies are currently operating in the country.

Karbasi stated that there are comprehensively 2,000 companies and specifically 500 companies in the IT and ICT sector. He added that the challenges faced by knowledge-based companies vary depending on the type of activity, and creating and developing markets can help the growth of knowledge-based entities.

He also mentioned that the concentration of knowledge-based companies in Tehran is another challenge in this field. Encouraging companies and increasing the infrastructure of science and technology parks in other provinces can prevent this concentration.
